Program
details
SSPUM
is
designed primarily for individuals who wish to learn new skills that
will
assist them in conducting research projects in the public sector. In
the past,
practicing managers have found that SSPUM provided them with some
useful
conceptual frameworks for their work, and also that their real world
experiences helped to enrich the classroom discussions for everyone,
but they
understand that the main focus is on doctoral students and junior
faculty.
The
final
day and a half of the program is devoted to the selection and design of
a
research project in the public sector. Here, practicing managers may
either
collaborate with researchers on the design of an investigative study,
or
provide the researchers with feedback on the feasibility and
practicality of
their proposed study.
The program is conducted entirely in English,
and requires a strong
command of the language. Many classes involve discussions, with the
topics
shifting several times during the class. As a result,
participants will
need to be able to understand what is being said and make comments
relatively
crisply and fluidly.
